What website type is right for me$1
There are many different types of websites — from a regular landing page, to a full-fledged web app, or even an eCommerce store. This post outlines what website type is the best fit for your business.
Landing Pages and Standard Websites
A landing page is a simple, one-page website designed to capture new users. For instance, if you are preparing to launch a new business, you may opt for a landing page where users can register for a newsletter to receive an email once the venture launches.
What we'll refer to as a standard website (to avoid ambiguity) is what one images when they hear the word "website" — they usually contain a home page and sections outlining the business' team, as well as their products and services. Most standard websites also contain a contact form to allow customers to get in touch if they have questions.
For very new businesses, we recommend a simple landing page. Once the business has launched, a standard website will help you promote your product or service more effectively.
Both landing pages and standard websites usually utilize a Content Management System (CMS) like WordPress, allowing for easier modifications to the website. Depending on your tech skills, you may even be able to make changes to the website yourself, with no coding required.
Other Types
In some cases, a simple website does not suffice. A good example of this is an eCommerce website, where a business sells products and services via a web shop. This is ideal for national or international-scale businesses since your company can reach a far wider audience if online orders are possible.
Another option is a web app, which includes many interactive elements — this could be a drag-and-drop product configurator, a calendar app, or anything else. Web apps are often programmed using a framework like Next.js as opposed to a CMS. In most cases, this requires an expert developer to make changes to your website as changes need to be programmed as opposed to using an online dashboard like with WordPress. However, this allows for more interactivity, faster loading times, and a more distinct brand identity.
If your business involves social media content, you may want to consider a blog, which allows you to share text, images, and video with your audience. Most blogs also have a comments section where readers can share their thoughts on the post.
Lastly, a forum is a good choice for business that rely heavily on user-to-user interaction. That could be in the form of a user-to-user support forum or as a replacement for blog post comments.
